Dhervillers’ scenes often pay homage to the great artists of the past, including Nicolas Poussin and Gustave Courbet. Other works use photographic processing to take the viewer into a fictional space outside of time.

In “Road Movie”, the artist changes actors. He introduces iconic cars and places them in wide, open spaces. Dhervillers creates fictional collages, narrative assemblages and he causes “temporal accidents”.

“Oculi” marks yet another milestone in the artist’s career. In this series Dhervillers chooses a spherical format. It resembles the “perfect form”, which refers to the divine and embodies the eye, lens and cosmos.

In the “Retinal” series Dhervillers goes back in history to the starting point of photography with the very first shot taken by Nicéphore Niépce in his garden. The image is disproportionate, the recognition of the location is almost impossible, forms slide. “Retinal” can be perceived as a check, a regression, a transgression. Nicolas Dhervillers proposes a series of large-format, curved images. Innovation as a starting point for these new works can also be seen as provocative in a time when the electronic industry promotes a new way of watching TV marketing curved screens.
