In the front of the gallery “The Dogs I’ve Dated“ will feature works by Kansas City artist Laura L. Davis. This collection comes out of a two year journey of joining the online dating world after a 25 year marriage. Many lessons have been learned, hearts have been broken, but Davis tried to find a funny, light-hearted way to deal with the arduous process of “putting herself out there again.” Her artwork shows an intuitive sense and desire for color, vibrancy and life. Watercolor and acrylic are her mediums of choice.

Most of these dogs belong to men she met online. There is a strange phenomenon in the online dating world where men like to post a bathroom selfie or a picture of their dog, closely followed by pictures of their car or truck and boat or motorcycle. Maybe this hints back to the age old dowry or is just a warning of what you are to expect or gain from a relationship with them. A few of these men remain friends and many were one timers. The dogs’ names have not been changed to protect their owner’s identity…

In the gallery back we will showcase “Il Etait une Petite Pie“ – Original Drawings and Gouaches by Joan Miró with texts by Lise Hirtz. The exhibit features six of the eight proofs (dummies), which were used to print the “pochoirs” of the first illustrated book by Miró. He created one of the most imaginative books for children and far beyond its time. Hirtz was the editor of Le Phare de Neuilly, which frequently published articles relating to surrealism.

Miró moved to Paris in 1919 where he was introduced to a surrealists group in 1924 by his neighbor Andre Masson, who shared his studio. Among these artists Miró found he inspiration for his work. But it was mostly the black humor of surrealists that dominated his creations. In August 1927 Paul Eluard sent Miro poems by Lisa Hirtz. Her first publication was “Il était une petite pie (There was a little magpie)” (with 8 pochoirs by Joan Miró) in 1928.

EXTENDED until the end of May: Inspired by an exhibition at Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, AR, Cerbera Gallery will show video slides, as well as exhibit a signed copy of “Border Cantos: Sight & Sound Explorations from the Mexican-American Border”.

Arrived just in time for our new Salon are works by German photographer Thorsten Brinkmann, Melanie Sherman, Jen Watson, Rain Harris, Paul Donnelly and Daniela Abel as well as a large selection of jewelry by artists such as Cydney Ross, Sam McPherson, Angelica Sandoval, House of DeBoer, Carly Slade, Jennifer Watson, Jen Wilkenson. We also have a very limited number of discounted necklaces dipped in gold and platinum luster by Melanie Sherman in our jewelry section. Check them out while they last!
As usual we’ll have chilled background tunes coming from our very own DJ Deep House Cat and will be serving libations and snacks. Our doors will open at 3pm, so make sure you’ll stop by!
